Hey guys, i need to know what exactly is the downside of not having the grounding strap under the head cover?
I've noticed that my engine doesnt have it at all, but i also have no problems at all with the engine starting or something except rough idle when warm but i blame the coil plugs filled with oil for that.
So, what is it used for?
If you mean the braided straps from the coils bracket the consequences are failed coils and poor performance. The rocker cover is effectively insulated from the engine and these straps are there to provide a positive ground.
Any wire capable of handling the current should do, no need for braid.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
You could ask why the bonnet is grounded too. It may be to get rid of RFI. Would BMW put a ground strap on if they didnt need to? Probably not
Thanks, do any of you know what is the lenght of this braided strap wire thing?
I should have a few of you need one.

im from Poland so i suppose i'd pay a lot for the shipment but i'd be very glad if you measure the straps in a free time
They’re about 10 cm
and the bolts are m6?
