Hi guys, im new to this. Im from south Africa. Mpumalanga Nelspruit. I've got a bmw e46 318I with the m43 motor in. Ever since I striped the motor to change my oil pump it has lost a huge amount of power and acceleration, ive always used castrol megnatec 10w40, but a bmw specialist said I should move over to total 20w50 quartz 5000. B4 I had striped the motor my cars performance was good. I was just wondering if someone had a similar problem which I can work off. Coz with leck of power now it has increased the consummation of fuel.
Your present oil is fine, the engines performance and increased fuel consumption is not.
I don't know how easily accessible BMW diagnostic equipment such as BMW specific scan tools/software would be in your part of the world, but if possible, a diagnostic scan would be helpful for an accurate diagnosis.
Based on your symptoms I would say they point to possibly an intake leak.
Check the rubber intake boots along with all associated vacuum hoses that may have been disturbed during your previous repair.
Squeeze them to check for brittleness or hidden, unseen cracks. Replace if any are faulty.
Here in the States, an intake smoke test performed with a professional smoke machine would be the best option to locate leaks.
I would recheck your cam/crank timing.
