    Longtime BMW owner, first F80

How you guys doin'? Been a member a short while, but I've been a lurker for years.

After owning (x4) E36, an E53, an E60, an E90, and even an E36/7 M Roadster, I finally bit the bullet on Tuesday and bought myself a modern M car, and I couldn't be happier. 2015 M3, CPO w/ only 24k miles. I love everything about it, but there's one thing that gives me a little bit of concern.

I'm out in WV/VA on a tour with some friends. The roads here are the best in the world. After an hour of 'spirited' driving, I pop the hood and there is a little bit of an odor of oil. I hear a faint noise--like a pressure release *hiss*--and a small waft of smoke from the rear of the engine puffs up. It does it once more, and then never again. Go for another hour-ish quick drive, pop the hood, same thing again.

As this is my first Forced Induction BMW, but not my first turbo car (I've had MINIs and Volkswagens) and I know that PCV/CCV valves can sometimes clog. Or sometimes turbo seals aren't as good as manufacturers would like them to be.

Or since it's a BMW 6cyl, a leaking valve cover gasket wouldn't exactly be out of the question.

In any sense, I'm not losing/consuming oil and the car feels fine. I'm still gonna drive it, but wondered if this was in any way common, or if I should make an appointment for when I get back from my drive.

    Thanks--

Wow--three days, 145 views, and nobody has any similar experiences? I think I may need to take it to the dealer, if this is as new an occurrence as it seems...

If you're concerned and it's under CPO warranty-TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP!

    Sure,
take advantage of the warranty if something concerns you enough,
or may cause engine damage, better safe than sorry!
While you're there maybe you can ask a tech to explain how a BMW turbo system differs from others,
that may explain your concerns about sounds that aren't familiar to you.
