I have a 2006 BMW 525XI and i am wanting to bypass the ac compressor since the bearing is out. Can anyone tell me what length i would be safe to go with? Time is of the essemce and the parts store is on my way to the car! Ty
Hmmm, I thought all modern bimmers have a separate belt for the ac compressor. Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of the car’s vin. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Check the engine section.
Nope...one belt, Mark. In fact, there's not many ancillaries to run these days, since water pumps and power steering are both electric now.
Aboom, I'd highly recommend that you just replace the compressor. You can get a used one cheaply from a salvage yard. No one's going to be able to give you a belt length, because every U.S. 525xi, and probably every one in the world, came with a/c. In fact, since there's an idler pulley between the a/c and the alternator, it's potentially impossible to run without the compressor anyway, because the belt might have to cross directly through the tensioner assembly.
Here are twelve pages of compressors, at varying prices:

I just looked under the hood of an F15 PHEV. One belt, it's toothed, like a timing belt. The only thing it's for is the starter.
Water pump, AC compressor are electric. The high voltage stuff takes place of the alternator. If it wasn't for this retarded starter, they wouldn't even have a belt. And, if this starter fails, the e-machine will start the engine.

My E39 (2002 I6 M54) has a separate belt just for the A/C compressor. Get some eyes under there to verify your situation.
Two belts good, one belt bad. Or something like that. See “Animal Farm.”

This thread has taken an odd turn...not that I'm complaining, mind you.
