Spiderwebs constantly forming on sideview mirrors, could there be a nest inside?

I'm constantly getting spiderwebs forming, I do not park with anything near my mirrors and it comes back after every car wash so I'm thinking perhaps they might be inside the mirror? Is there a cavity they could hide in there or near? And if I have to disassemble anything to investigate is it easy to do and put back together?

It's not a nest, it's likely just one lone spider hiding at the back. After washing away the web next time just get some insect surface spray and spray it on the spots where he makes the web. He'll cross over it when he makes his next web and it will be his last. Worked for me.

Unless you have auto-dimming side view mirrors (which you probably don't have on a 97)...the mirror glass just pops off the mirror's motor assembly. I you have EC (auto-dim) side mirrors...the mirror glass has a very obvious THICK black band around the circumference of the glass and there's a bayonet on the bottom side that you slide to remove the glass (if you don't see either of these...then you have regular mirror glass that pops off).

There are 4 clips that hold the mirror glass on the housing. Push the top of the glass inward where the bottom juts out. If you have a plastic/nylon pry tools...just insert it along the bottom to pry the mirror glass lose along the bottom (first)...then proceed to pop the mirror off the upper clips. Once the mirror is removed...look for the spider to remove/kill it...or use an insect spray to end its life.

This is what's behind the mirror glass...lots of places for that little bugger to hide and stay alive while the car is being washed...then he just rebuilds his web:

Here's instructions on how to remove the regular mirror glass (if you don't have the power fold/auto-dimming side mirrors with the bayonet along the bottom side):

If you have EC auto diim (bmw calls it "dip" but don't confuse this with the passenger mirror feature that tilts when in reverse...that's a totally different feature)...then the glass has a different removal procedure...and as stated above can visually be determined by a thick black band around the mirror glass and the bayonet along the bottom:

I ended up spraying a ton of raid on the edge between the frame and mirror, then power blasted em with a hose. I'm going to give it a few days before popping the mirror off in case I manage to pop it off and find a nice spider.

I find it funny that I'm having the exact same thing happen with my 01 I just got, it's always on my driver's side mirror. My 98 is parked next to a tree an I've never had this problem lol I guess they love facelifts more
