It's a bit tight feeling, so if I turn and let go, the wheel comes back to almost neutral, but I still have to help it with steering input to go the remainder of the way. I've read that it could be any one of a number of steering or suspension components.
Anyone have this issue, and solved it?
This happened on my Town Car last year and it was frightening to say the least. After I lubricated the U-Joint, it never happened again. I'll go out on a limb here and say these E46 cars likely have a U-Joint as well.
An attempt at a proper wheel alignment should reveal the culprit!
+1 to Miky. Yes there is a flex joint in the steering column. It's a bear to change w/out the right tools.
I almost never wait for the steering geometry to straighten out the wheels. I pull the steering wheel to straight by hand. It doesn't seem like a hardship to me and I feel more in-control...
