89 325 with M50 swap.
The car had only a working speedo. So, I ordered batteries to solder in. When I opened the cluster, it has the older style large batteries installed (they had been replaced previously). The car came with another cluster that the previous owner tried to plug and play. I opened the other cluster which had the small batteries. Are you still with me?
So, I soldered in new batteries to the second cluster. Connected it back up.........tach now works with no fuel or temp. Cleaned the grounds on the back. Same result. I also now have a flashing CHECK light
So, here is my question(s). It looks like someone has been in the cluster before. How can I tell which is the correct cluster? Should I soldier on trying to sort out the cluster with the small batteries, or replace the large batteries on the cluster that the car came with? As mentioned earlier, I am concerned that the cluster that came with the car is not the original.
Any advice is appreciated including "bin it and buy a refurbished one."
Thanks
Maybe you can find some of the info you need here: http://bavrest.com/technical-articles/bmw-e30-si-board#
I would try and work with what you got. you have two so you should be able to get one working
No e30s again.
Step on the brake and press the overhead obc check button to get rid of the check light flashing.
Find someone with a stock 89 e30 and check the cluster with yours, should be the same.
