The antenna for the remote lock/unlock function is in the rear windshield. The amplifier is located in the drivers side “C” pillar. The C pillar is the body part that runs from the roof to the trunk area. The amp is located behind the interior panel. Remove the interior light and then remove the 10mm bolt. The interior panel is held in place with plastic push pins. Verrrrry gently pull the panel to pull the push pins from the body. You’ll likely break the push pin brackets on the interior panel. Expoxy or gorilla glue works best to reglue the broken brackets.
There are several possibilities. Remove the C pliiar cover and remove the electrical connectors from the amp. Btw, the amp has 2 amps:
- lock/unlock function
- RF amp for the radio.
Clean both sides of all connectors with a good contact cleaner. Inspect all connectors for corrosion. Clean all corrosion. Look got a cream colored wire. Make sure that the chassis connector pin has 12VDC. Reassemble, making sure the RF coaxial connectors are tight. Retest the lock/unlock functuon.
If no joy you need to have the keyfob tested to ensure it’s sending out the RF signal when the button is pressed. There’s a battery in the keyfob that’s used only for the lock/unlock function. It may be dead. Go to E46Fanatics yo see the procedure to replace the battery. The battery is NOT a rechargeable battery.
