'01 325Ci - 5 speed - slight "clunk" sound going into 1st or Reverse?

Hi All,

I've read a few threads about Subframes and Rear differential bushings, but, the symptoms don't seem to match mine; which is: After starting the car and sitting still, I put it into reverse and I hear a slight "clunk" from what sounds like right under me. I back up, stop, and when I got to put it in 1st, I hear the same clunk. Not loud. Don't feel it in the wheel or seat...

Any ideas - or is there something I can check to confirm what may be going on?

Its probably just driveline lash. If you wait a few seconds after you press the clutch down and then try to engage the gear I bet it doesn't clunk.
