Yes, also S54, and possibly the N-engines N52-N55. Clutch and flywheel will fit natively from some of these, but I'm not sure about the N motors - IIRC one of them had a mid-production change from a 6-bolt flywheel to an 8-bolt. Trans codes are GS6-17GZ (N53), GS6-37BZ (M54, N52), GS6-45BZ (N55), and GS6-53BZ (N54).
Also, I'm 95% sure (you should research to confirm) that any of the diesel transmissions - 320/520d, 325/525d, maybe others - will fit as well. I've done some homework on these because some of them have extra-tall gearing and I want that for a diesel swap:
GS6-37DZ - three different sources of data give three different gear ratios. One of them says it's double-overdrive (5th is 0.8 and 6th is 0.66). There are some variations for all the transmissions here, but AFAIK this is the only trans with claimed major differences within the same basic name.
GS6-45DZ - "Efficient Dynamics" transmission. Double-overdrive without a doubt, but seems expensive, has first- and reverse-gear problems, and is dry-sump (I don't have details). Came behind N47D20O1 (leave it to modern BMW to make a code where a letter O follows a zero )
GS6-53DZ - came with M57 and N57
By the way, if you, being in the magical kingdom of Europe, have access to the diesel transmissions and could help me find a -37DZ with double-overdrive, I'd be most grateful, and willing to help you source any US-market stuff you might want.
