I used to be a forum member for 10 years but cannot recover my old profile or so I thought until I hit "Enter". So you can see my old car, I will have to upgrade pictures.
Anyway, I just bought a 2015 M235i with the more expensive Harmon Kardon factory system. In my previous car (Accord) I ran the usual 6 1/2" mid-bass in the doors with a cross-over linked 1" sail panel tweeter. In the rear deck-lid I had a pair of two-way 6 1/2" speakers. And finally, in the trunk I had a conservative 10" 4 ohm Dual-voice coil sub. All of my speakers were Alpine's "high-end" edition "R" Series.
I noticed that BMW unfortunately makes use of nothing larger than a 4" driver, except for the two comical 8" drivers under the seats. I was looking to put my single 10' sub back in the trunk. As for the fronts I read where BMW uses a Fiber Optic cable to carry the signal to the amp. So I don't know if you can even bypass the factory amp. As I have a nice four-channel Audio Control amp, that would easily take care of the door speakers and the ones up in the rear deck lid. Also I have a mono 1200 watt rated Kicker amp for the single 10" driver.
Any advice for the audio rookie?
Thanks,
David
