Hi,
I need to replace my rear shock mounts. I'd like to upgrade it to an M3 version + add the Z3 plate.
Im not sure if the M3 version will fit a normal Sachs shock (94 E36 325i).
Ive found these part nrs:

Are these all the same, whats the difference?
What is the original BMW brand of these? What is the best brand? I was considering Bilstein because this seems the most popuplar on pelicanparts:

Nice job researching the various part numbers.
For OE type shocks, the numbers you list are essentially universal 318 to M3, with the E46M3/Convertible being the most robust of the factory/Lemforder parts.
Use the BMW E46M3/Convertible RSMs, and the Z3 Reinforcement Plates.
Others will recommend aftermarket RSMs composed of alloy bases, rubber ‘doughnuts’, and a steel sleeve. Turner, BimmerWorld, ECS, FCP and others all offer these. Liberally grease the inside of the steel sleeve.
I have not had good luck with Meyle products and as such, I do not recommend them.

Get the Meyle HD e46/e36 mounts with the steel insert. There's a member that was selling the reinforcement plates for $20, just can't remember his name.

I can order the OEM Z3 plates for 18 euros from BMW = 20usd in my country.

As they are easy to replace id like to try OEM ones first, also the aftermarkets are expensive and they dont make them in my country, so probably also additional shipping cost.
So you say lemforder is the OEM brand then? I suspected that (i havent seen that brand much with other parts). And is this then the best one?
Does the convertible (=Z3?) use the same as E46 m3 then?
I read about some shocks (like bilstein) having a larger diameter (12 instead of 10mm ? not sure) bolt on the top, thats why i wasnt sure.. and id say the M3 has more ridgid shocks so maybe larger diameter bolts...

Koni externally adjustables have a 12mm shock shaft to support the adjustment mechanism. Some high end COs with adjustment mechanisms also have 12mm shafts.
Most OE replacements have stock size 10mm shafts.
The E46M3/E46 Convertible RSMs will fit OE replacement Rear Shocks and the Shock Tower.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Will use Lemforder E46M3 rsm's, Z3 plates and Elring gaskets.
One more question: The Z3 reinforcement plates are screwed straight on the paint of shock housing. Is it maybe an idea to also put gaskets between de reinforcement plates and the housing so the paint wont get damaged? Or might that actually cause the shifting of the RSM's and in that way actually damage it?

Ya, never thought it about it, but ya, I’d use a gasket there also.
The gasket between the RSM and the body is to prevent fretting and moisture migration.
You will have to confirm it fits over the interior Shock Tower flange.
