I took my key apart today to try and get my central lockin to work.,now the key will not start the car

Try pushing the button on the board.
Maybe when you took it apart the transponder chip fell out and you didn’t notice it.
Clearly something you did wrecked the key or the key is really not the starting problem
Yes. That’s it.
The key has 2 separate electronic systems. The battery powers the remote lock/unlock system. It has nothing to do with starting the engine. The other electronic system interacts with the car’s electronic theft prevention system (EWS in BMWspeak). The EWS prevents the 12VDC exciter voltage from getting to the starter. This system and the key fob interact every time the hey is in the ignition and the key is rotated to the start position. The key has to respond to the EWS system with the correct code. When it does do the EWS system sends a new code to the key. This new code is used the next time the car is started.
Is the engine cranking? If not you need to resequence the key with the EWS. Go to E46Fanatics and search for key alignment or similar.
