Hello friends. I'm totally new to the forum, so just bear with me. I have a 2001 bmw 740il with the EDC and SLS rear suspension. It has hydraulic lines going to the struts and a electric plug on the top stem of the struts. I want to get away from this system. I have purchased 2 rear stock strut assembly's from a 98 model with no EDC or SLS and no wires coming from the top stem of the struts. Could I get away with leaving the pigtail undone on top of the struts and just bypassing the hydraulic lines like I have saw you guys do? I am a 21 year current mechanic so I should understand anything you throw at me hopefully. Just would like to get it right the first time I start on it. Thanks again in advance for your help!
You are in the wrong forum, ask in the E38 forum, not E32. I will move it to the E38 forum, there are the experts for that model.

Thanks shogun! I appreciate your help. I'm sure I will catch on soon. U guys are great and I love all your post. Keep up the great work!!!
There is an old thread from Edwin about deleting sls. I’ll see if I can find it. - from bimmerboard - but good.

Yes. Leaving the electrics unplugged is totally fine. To bypass the hydraulic lines, I recommend using the method where you get a pre-cut and flared brake line from NAPA, and use it to create a loop under the driver's seat area. This way you are using proper fittings which will prevent any leaks down the road. Check here for info: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...7#post28684727
Ok guys yall are awesome with your help. Just a couple more questions if possible. If I leave the wires unplugged on top of my rear struts on my 01 bmw 740il, that won't throw any stupid lights on right? Believe it or not, mine has absolutely no lights going crazy on the dash, and I would really love to keep it that way if possible! Also the used strut assemblys I got from the rear of a 98 740il, have no wires or the hydraulic lines going to them like I previously stated. Do u think my car would now sit about properly in the rear as the front sits in ride height? If you guys think I'm good, then I'm going to get started on it asap. Just wanted a second opinion before getting started. As always I appreciate your help and patience with my newbie self!
Many have done this - no, you should not get any error lights. So, this set of rear struts - does it have springs? Your best bet is to get the front struts too - it will be balanced better - the rates will match.
It is complete with springs. I was just hoping they would match somewhat and the car would sit halfway normal. Currently it sits down in the rear as I have a leaking shock and the leveling accumulators are bad as well.
Currently - that is on the old sls / edc setup? Once you swap, they will not be influencing ride height
Yes. It is down in the rear with the old EDC/SLS setup. That's gonna suck if it's still down in the rear after I install the non -edc/sls setup. That will be a real bummer.
