    IHKA Compressor/Aux Fan inop

I have recently updated my IHKA module to a 1997 build with digital fan speed readout as my original 1996 build IHKA with wheel controllers for the fans had almost total pixel loss. The replacement IHKA has been coded to the car using NCS and appears to be working correctly in that heating, fan speed and all indicator lights are evident. However, the compressor is not turning on when the ac button is pressed and illuminated. I have used INPA to test the aux fan (and thus the compressor) and the vehicle then cools down as expected. The error codes for the IHKA from INPA are:

    Date: 10/04/18 16:13:52
    ECU: IHKA38 2
    JobStatus: OKAY
    Variant: IHKA38 2

    RESULT:

I immediately thought that I had perhaps bought a bad replacement IHKA and refitted the old one as a test. However, the fault codes for the old unit are the same. I did not previously have any error codes with my original IHKA. Is there a fuse or relay in the aux fan/condenser circuit, which might have failed and be the cause of my error codes? Any advice or opinion would be gratefully received.

Probably didn’t code it right what did you do in ncs? Usually us tool 32 or winkfp to properly flash modules

NCS Expert is normally good for aligning a module to the car. However, as an extra insurance, I took it yesterday to my local BMW specialist, who again coded it to the car using ISTA/P and then made sure that my DME and transmission software was up to date. I did not ask him to do any troubleshooting just yet. In any case, refitting the original IHKA as a test should have been immediately successful but it threw the same codes. I am sure that this is a minor electrical issue. The car is otherwise perfect with only 17,000 miles - sweet!

How can you code it with ISTA or INPA? I thought that was only for diagnostics.

Thanks Mayorchuck. I have checked fuses 7, 11 and 20, all of which relate to climate control. All fuses were fine. I will now go down the path of proving the settings within the IHKA panel. If I cannot manipulate them to get the compressor working, I will get another IHKA panel and hope for better luck with the replacement.

Georgebest, No coding with INPA - just fault reading and clearing. Coding done with NCS Expert. My Indie uses ISTA/P for coding. It appears that ISTA/P is the follow on coding software after NCS. You can see from my response to Mayorchuck what I intend to do next. I believe that the compressor and clutch to be good. Everything was working fine before I decided to change my old panel with the bad pixels.

Got it, I should check ISTA/P then, never tried, thanks. Always used NCS Expert for coding.

OK, I have now tried a third IHKA module and coded it to the car but still getting error messages in INPA. As a last sanity check before I hand the car over to my Indy to rectify, could someone please post the NCS trace file for a correctly working IHKA module? Because everything was working well before I changed the module, I am a little worried that coding has introduced errors, which are preventing the compressor and auxiliary fan from engaging. There may be a glitch in the system as this was originally a Japan car. I can then ensure that all variables in the coding are correct. Many thanks in anticipation for any assistance.
