    What’s this sound - fuel pump? ‘01 325Ci

Hi all. I noticed a sound coming from what seems the passenger rear wheel; kind of a buzz/whine. Doesn’t seem to be coming from engine. Fuel pump? Is this normal or is the pump on its way out?

    Thank you,

    Jay

Definitely fuel pump noise. When was the fuel filter replaced last? Has the pump ever been replaced?

Don’t know on either - just bought the car 3 or 4 months ago. Maybe do fuel filter and see if it changes? And if not, plan on the pump going soon? Runs fine at the moment - but the moment the pump goes, I bet she no run so good.

    Are these fuel systems pressurized?

    Thank you

Remove the back seat bottom and access cover on the right side and check the pump. The original ones have a mfg date and a one time crimp type clamp on the hose. If it is original or a cheap aftermarket China part, I would change it. New vdo (oem) pump is about $150. Same part that bmw dealer sells for a fraction of the price. You can try replacing the fuel filter first but risk getting stuck somewhere if the pump quits. Fuel pressure should be about 50 psi.
