Looks good! One of my next projects to complete. I bought unlined Alcantara fabric to recover headliner, pillar covers, and the rear seat shelf. I just need to strip off old fabric and repair the pillar covers first.

    What adhesive did you use?

Nice job. What brand material and thickness did you go with?

Nice work. I knew the parts were not cheap, but I was still a little surprised by this total cost. If I ever get around to tackling the 850 out in my shop, I'm really on the fence about what to do with the sunroof. I figure I've got three options:

    A) Get it all working correctly as intended/designed.
    B) Get it cosmetically good, in the aligned and closed position, then pull the fuse.
    C) Weld in a filler panel, paint, and be done with the stupid thing forever.

I've always preferred cars without built-in rectangular leaks, but slick-topping the car (C) is by far the most work and cost intensive option. Your choice -- (A) -- is probably the "right" answer. (B) is the easiest and cheapest option.

    Cheers, John

    1) Option C is easier said than done. It is fraught with potential problems over time .There's the 4th option: Install a sunroof delete roof.
    2) Alcantera is the better headliner. It has more backing and sets and looks better. Suede is good for inside panels than headliner.

Incidentally, after I installed a sunroof delete roof, I had a sunroof delete headliner fabricated from my original sunroof headliner. It looks just like an original. Sunroof delete headliners are NLA.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I know that slicktop headliners are NLA. I had forgotten reading about your full roof replacement. I don't imagine that scalping the car was a cakewalk, though! I seem to recall that there's one group out there making carbon fiber roof panels. Did you just order an entire new roof from BMW? And if I may ask, what did that set you back? I'm fairly confident that my car isn't worth that kind of investment, given its miles and other condition challenges.

    Cheers, John

    1) Yes; new roof
    2) Set me back a lot. "Worth" is like beauty; it's in the eye of the beholder.

Looks super nice! E31 is really good looking car. I also have E63 650i and it is nothing like E31!
