    ? power steering interchange e24 - e23

Today I am possibly upgrading my alternator and bracket off of a 1989 e24 w/ a b35. It has the way easier belt adjusting system as well as a bonus larger alternator. Question is, my 1980 733i has an older style power steering pump that would need to be modified to fit the bracket. Can I use the smaller ps pump off the 635? I realize I would need to have some custom hoses made. I'm due for new hoses anyway.
Thanks for the sharing of the knowledge!

I did some research, and it seems both style pumps are 130 bar. I'm going to move ahead with this and hope for the best. The alternator pulley lined up perfect. Lets hope the P/S is close.

Please post back on the PS findings and what (if any) modifications need to be made. Any difference in belt size needed?

    Absolutely can and will.
I have the pump and alternator in place with the newer 1989 B35 bracket. I put a few bends in the E24 PS hose to make it fit. I'm waiting on a new pulley from eBay for the pump. I'll then know more about the belt sizes.
The alternator only needed larger ring terminals. Used the same belt. And so much easier to adjust. No pry bars needed.

Awesome! I know a lot of people fit the B35 water pump/pulley as an upgrade as well.

    Thumbs up

I thought the B35 alt/PS bracket had a support through the oil pan? It did on an E32 I had seen. Post pictures please.
    I make E23 parts.

To bad I just replaced my pump. I have the b35 pulley.
...the B35 alt/PS bracket had a support through the oil pan?
My 1980 b32 was a 2 piece bracket. The 1989 b35 bracket was a one piece. They both used one bolt into the oil pan, even though there were two bolt holes.
The greasy bracket is the Original B32. The installed (painted brown) bracket pic (viewed from below) is the B35 bracket on the B32 motor. Specifically the bolt into the pan.
Sorry in advance about the bad, night time cell phone pics. If more clarity is needed I can do more this weekend.
