Hello,
I'm changing out some coolant pipes as preventative maintenance on our '98 318ti (M44). I took off the intake manifold and all of the wires underneath it last week, and have been held up ever since. Now I'm not 100% sure where some of the wires go. Specifically, the ring terminals that go to the starter and alternator. If anyone has any insight to where each wire goes underneath there I would very much appreciate the help. I am speaking of the cluster that comes from a box that is bolted to the top of the lower intake manifold. The wires hang down from the box through the hole between the runners of cylinder 1&2 and cylinders 3&4.
I'm used to working on my M54 where all the wiring is fairly straight-forward, I wish I marked them before removing!
Thanks for any help!

as a starter, here are the wiring diagrams, and at the end are component location views and component location charts http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

Those diagrams didn't have the information I was looking for, however I think I found where everything goes. Only area I'm skeptical of at the moment is the large starter stud, as I have put both the positive running from the firewall and the positive running to the alternator on that stud... I will soon find out if that is correct!

The ETM contains all of the information, you may not have been able to find it but the ETM is the most comprehensive electrical manual there is. It contains EVERYTHING about every single wire, plug, module, etc on the car.

And yes there should be 2 large red wires connected to the starter. It doubles as a splice point.

I must have missed them, or didn't get everything opened.
I managed to get everything back where it should go. Once I could see everything it became relatively clear.
