    95 M3 misfire/backfire on acceleration?!

    Hello, new to bimmerforums...
I just put almost 2k into my car having the clutch replaced and all new tires put on only to get less then 400 miles and it breaks down again! Only this time its a whole new issue.
So to start idk if this is relevent or not but i was stupid and did the water in the exhaust thing to make it sound different a day or two before the misfire/backfire/different idle came up. When I parked the car is was running great. and a day or two later when i started it to leave my house it was idleing different... and when i when to drive away from my house it starts backfiring thru my exhaust like gun shots! i turned around and parked it.

    Since then i have
~replaced the crank sensor that was almost rubbed in half by the fan pulley - no difference.
~I disconnected the exhaust from the header to see if maybe a cat or resonator collapsed and was causing to much backpressure - no difference

I am probably going to order a new coil pack and see if one is going put intermittenly. Just wanted to touch base here and see if anyone else has had this issue and figured out what it is??? Any info or guesses will be greatly appreciated!!

    95 M3 misfire/backfire on acceleration?!

Have you checked for engine error codes?

Does the backfiring occur when freely revving, or slowly accelerating while driving? Or is it only when the engine is under load?...that’s when my backfiring occurs.

Did you do any other work besides replace the clutch?

I’m chasing the exact same problem on my S50 that occurred right after replaced the head gasket and rear main seal.

Mine is mostly throwing a cam position sensor error code. I’ve since replaced both the cam and crank position sensors with Genuine BMW sensors, and I still get the code and backfiring.

Read my other recent post in this forum and see if it sounds like your issue as well.
