Greetings all,
I have a very strange problem that I would love help diagnosing.
One week ago my car (2003 Z4, 2.5L) would not start. When I turned the key, the lights would go on and all things electronic (windows, AC, windshield wipers, etc.) worked fine, but the engine never attempted to turn over. After doing a lot of research, I found that this problem often occurs because of a bad ignition switch.
This is where things get weird and frustrating. I bought a new ignition switch and, being a relatively simple fix, was able to install it with no issues. I turned the key and everything worked perfectly. The car started up right away and I was able to drive it to work all week. This morning, however, I went to start my car and encountered the same issue I was having a week ago. Electronics work, but when I turn the key the rest of the way the engine doesn't make an effort to start.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can change out a part for a brand new one, make everything work fine for a week, and then revert to the same issue occurring? Could it be electrical, perhaps a fuse? I'm likely going to go back into the dash and uninstall/reinstall the same part to see if something just needs to be jostled and look for any corrosion that I might have missed the first time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
Simple things first.
Have you checked the battery/battery cables connection.
