Hey all!
There's been a strange issue lately. At highway speeds (excess of 50mph, more often at 70+) When going uphill, the coolant CEL comes on. It seems to go away when going downhill. I opened the cap, both warm and cold, coolant is at the right level. It doesn't smell funny. Some vapor exists when opening the cap when warm, which I theorize is normal. I am unsure what's going on here.
I switch gears between 2,500 and 3,250 rpm and almost never redline her. That is, of course, unless some prick in a Subaru tries to cut me off, that's when the throttle hits the floor. Those are rare instances, though.
I am at 136k and have pampered her accordingly. Nothing else is coming up via OBDII. I went through the triangle of death, replaced the servo gear, and came away unscathed a few weeks ago. New manifold cover w/ gasket, new oil cooler gasket, new oil filter housing gasket.
Is it time for a flush?
If anyone is having the same issue, replace your expansion tank. Problem solved. The coolant level sensor gets sticky after 11 yrs of operation.
