    Gear lever confusion

I'm replacing the gear selector cable in my e32 and I'm weary that if I engage the cable to a different gear than what is showing on the gear selector, then I'm going to have an issue. So I'm trying to put the gear selector (in the car, and underneath, #23) into park. The plastic cylinder that runs the length of the shaft of the selector (#13) doesn't want to raise when I pull the handle of the selector. Thus I cant change gears without lifting up the plastic bit without a screwdriver and moving it like that. Any ideas? My battery is dead but I think this issue is unrelated to the solenoid. Correct me if I'm wrong! My main question is whether #15 in this diagram https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...51#25161219149 is supposed to go into the top hole of #13.

Second issue: Driver door lock. I just replaced the actuator and it made a difference in how badly the lock is making it seem like it wants to work, but nothing much otherwise. I cant raise or lower the lock by hand, too stiff, though the central locking is working fine, as the rest of the door locks respond accordingly. I've looked at all of the components in the door for a decent amount of time, and nothing looked out of place, though I'm unfamiliar.

    Thanks in advance.

Click here to Shoguns page. http://twrite.org/shogunnew/topmenu.html Go to fixes, then check body/repair shift knob. Then check Doors to check to resync your door locks.

This might also help you. I had to replace my shift mechanism a couple of years ago. Check this thread for some good pictures.

If your trying to get the car into a gear as its stuck in park ... I think that’s what you mean ? Sitting in drivers seat there is a metal hook inside the shifter assembly (under #7 in the diagram) lift that hook up and pull the shift handle and it will release, You can only see this hook from the drivers side. For the cable I usually put the car in reverse and the trans in reverse and install the cable but to be honest the cable has very minor adjustments if any so you should be able to put the cable in blindly and adjust accordingly

I didn't have to remove any grommets to replace the actuator. To check them, I cannot tell what the photo on RealOEM is referring to. Do you happen to have a photo of these grommets on the car?

Would the grommets be symptomatic of me being unable to manually lock and unlock the door?

    see this link https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...light=grommets

Would the grommets be symptomatic of me being unable to manually lock and unlock the door?>>yes, in case of my car it was the problem, the grommets are holding the links in the lock system, and when these grommets are old and crumble away the system does not work anymore.
