I am putting my 03 525i back together and I have a question. I am doing the vanos timing. I put the crank lock pin in and the cam locking tool on . I set it up just the way it was supposed to be I have all the tools. After torquing everything down . I took the locking tools off and left the jig on . I then turned the engine over twice. Lined everything up the locking tools went right back in place. After installing the vanos unit . I turned the engine over again and the intake cam was a little off. Should i be worried about this I also did vanos seals . Just asking cause it would be easier to redo it now . Then to go back later. Thanks for any replies
I have done this procedure a couple of times. I don’t believe you have a problem. The vanos unit, when reinstalled, will cause it to drift but will again adjust cam timing in response to engine signals.

Thanks effduration. I couldn't sleep last night so I went back and checked my work. I did the timing correctly but i remembered i had to push the vanos unit on. So i found my mistake . When i put the vanos unit back together I put the spring on the intake side instead of the exhaust side . So when I put it on the engine it retarded the intake cam. Took everything apart switched it and retimed it and everything lined up. Put the vanos unit on turned the engine over several times and everything was spot on.
