My AC compressor only engages if I jump the wires on the radiator temp switch. Refrigerant is good, and it blows cold if I jump it. Aux fan runs on low w the AC on and will blow on high if I jump those wires on the radiator temp switch. The wires at the rad sensor plug pretty much fell apart when I disconnected it.

I replaced the radiator temp switch with one from an E36 (same temp) and spliced the wires together. No difference.

The wiring on the compressor looks terrible...I had assumed that was the issue until I jumped it from the rad temp switch.

Any ideas? I guess I'll have to learn to understand wiring diagrams.

I do think the thermostat is stuck open, but I don't think it would stop the compressor from engaging. The car takes a long time to get warm. Temp barely gets past the 1/4 mark on a 15 minute drive...in Florida summer heat. Yes, I'll be replacing this. I bought the car with a bad motor. I replaced it with another M42 and am slowly bringing it back to 100%
