Hi everyone
I replaced all four window regulators about 2.5 years ago, so I don't think this is the problem.
A few days ago I had the front passenger window half way down and when I clicked to roll it up it didn't respond, then after a couple up and down clicks it went up. And I've rolled it up and down several times since then but I took mental note of it.
Then a few day later - today - my driver side window was half down and I clicked to roll it up and got nothing. Down or up, no response. I kept trying while driving and got no response. I got home about 15 minutes later and parked and opened the door. As I clicked up I got a very very slow movement so I helped it up with the palm of my hand to get it closed.
Any ideas what to check? Relays or fuses? Suspicious that both front windows behave like this?
Your car has a General Module 5 (gm5) that has a bunch of relays. Go to www.bmwgm5.com to find out about and about repairs. This is a common issue as the E46s get old.
I took apart the driver's door and found that the wire inside the regulator spindle was kinda twisted and it popped out when I removed the regulator motor. I tried a few tricks to get it to go back inside and wind around the spindle properly but no avail. It that even possible? Or do I need to buy a new regulator?

Needs a regulator.
I bought a replacement. I can't get the window to go down even though I cut the wires on the old regulator in a few places. It feels like it's hitting something on the rail / clip side opposite the side with the spindle.
