1987 325i convertible manual cover won't open.

The cables are intact, but the plastic handle release and surrounding housing for the handle are shot and have fallen apart. How do I open the deck to manually release the latches? 7 inches of rain and 70 mph winds put my baby in full exposure to the storm and I must drop the top to dry it out. I only have today for sunshine so HELP!!! Please.

You should be able to pull on the two cables with some pliers to release the latches. I posted a video on my Youtube channel where I show this and the installation of a new handle.

+1 When I got mine the plastic handle was attached to the cables but just hanging there. We just pulled the handle forward towards the front of the car to open the top. I have since replaced the handle, easy job.
