    Need a Crankshaft Position Sensor for my 1984 E30 Alpina B6 2.8

OEM BMW Crankshaft Position Sensor won't work with the Alpina CPU the sensor is connected to. Anyone have a lead to where I could find a new or good used one? I know, I know, good luck but I thought I'd post up to see. Never know till you ask...

    Thanks,

what does the one you have now look like? it doesn't use the early sensors, like the 85 eta?

    Hi there,

No, when Alpina modified the 2.8 liter M30, they needed to modify the Motronic ignition as well. They achieved this by going with another German automotive electronics company by the name of Atlas Fahrzeugtechnik. AFT designed their own crank position sensor as well as ignition black box to work with the Motronic system. A Bosch sensor does not work. That's what I've got in there now. Previous owner / repair shop had no idea it was an Alpina part they need to source. Well, Alpina no longer sells these sensors and I've reached out to AFT (now Schaeffling-Engineering). They are working with me but need more info, some pictures of this CPS, to see what they can dig up. It's been years ago since AFT manufactured these.

Attached you will find pictures of one in the Alpina parts catalog (#3) but I need good close-ups of one.

Anyone out there know someone with a B6 2.8 (1984-1989) that has a spare engine on a stand or accessible? I'm on several forums and haven't had any luck.

    Many thanks,

    Mark

And here is a Bosch version. Similar in shape and size but that's about it... https://imgur.com/a/pZC34F4

    1984 Alpina B6 2.8/1 Crankshaft Sensor

Yep, still looking for one of these AFT crank position sensors or at least a picture of one that I can relay to Schaeffler-Engineering. They bought AFT and with some pix, they might be able to dig something up in their old parts bins.
