Drivers side angel eyes and tail light on??? P warning light?

I had left my 2998 550i in the driveway (locked) when I went to dinner with my family and when I returned I noticed the tail light and angel eyes were illuminated only on the drivers side of the car. Never seen this before. I then turned the car on and noticed a P with 3 or 4 lines coming off it on the dash. Car started fine, turned it off and the lights went off too.
Very weird, Any ideas what happened or what that means?

Sounds like you activated the roadside parking lamps.

Use the turnsidnal lever to actuate the side you want to illuminate.

You also enjoy the option of lighting up just oneside of your vehicle when parking. When usingthis function, comply with national regulations:
With the ignition off, press the lever in thedesired direction, past the resistance point.
The roadside parking lamps drain the bat-
tery. Do not switch them on for long peri-ods of time, otherwise it may no longer be pos-sible to start the engine.
