Would you loosen the Jesus bolt before pulling the engine?

Or would it be no different on a stand? Seems like maybe I should get it started before it’s out of the car. At this point everything is detached except the driveshaft and maybe a connection or two I haven’t found yet. Top side is ready to go.

Depends on your stand and mounting. If “loose” then no; it “tight” then okay.
Advantage of in place: vehicle mass is counterbalance.
Advantage of out: don’t have to worry about something damaging the body if it slips.

Yes, absolutely if you intend to dismantle the engine. If you have a super duper impact then no but for those of us relegated to hand tools, a big yes.
Holding the engine from turning is problematic w/o the proper tool and when the torque required to loosen is also enough to tip over the engine on a stand.
Since a lot is removed you have room for a strong breaker bar resting on the frame rail. The starter is your friend

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

If you have a REALLY nice impact and air compressor to run it, out of the car should be fine. Me personally, I would do it in the car.

    This method never fails.

Pipe from Home Depot, 5 ft steel, I think 2 inch inner diameter
