Hi. I've searched the forum but didn't find anything on this. I bought a pair of 97 E36 M3 front strut assemblies (yellow Bilsteins) that have a bolt extending out of the bottom of the housing with a nut. The end of the bolt has a flat head screwdriver slit in it. I am fairly certain this is not a cut-a-strut because the bolt protrudes from the bottom of the housing about 1.5 inches and this is supposed to be OEM. Is there any way to remove the insert or is this really one piece? If it isn't removable, what is the bolt for - damping adjustments? There are no markings or indicators to indicate that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
What is the part number for your struts

I think the bolt is for the internal bump stop .

That fastener should be seated to the bottom of the strut.
Not sure why it extends past the bottom.
