I need some information regarding this before I make an attempt and fail at it, my buddies e36 comes with a Manual transmission but he wants to do an automatic swap, the deal is I get to take the manual tranny... but I’m unsure about the wiring, will the Manual engine harness work with an Automatic transmission? If not will I be able to use a harness that came from another OBD2 engine of the same model? Any information helps thanks!

You will need to swap wiring harness, part of the driveshaft, and also source a computer for the auto trans

Do you know if there is a specific automatic transmission ecu I’m supposed to use? Thx!
I don't know how big of deal it is, but the main DME also has slightly different software for the automatic. You can flash the DME with an automatic trans version. You would need some $25 software and a cable that doesn't cost to much and a ROM file.

Also, when you have the automatic (hopefully its good), it is wise the have the torque converter rebuild, it's about $125 (rockauto.com), replace the o-ring on the input shaft and replace the input shaft seal.

Use the auto trans computer thats with the auto harness (im assuming youre getting used parts from a salvage yard?)
Since you say the car is obd2, once you change from 5-sp harness to auto, you may have a problem with EWS but im not 100% sure about it (my EWS is deleted by switching to obd1). Let us know how it goes...you only have 2 posts asking questions with no contribution to this forums so im not sure how many ppl are willing to respond. The search button is your friend. Good luck
