    Wheel spacer size

Right now I’m running stock ride height in a 95 318ti with BBS RK 16x8, 5x120, 38 offset. I don’t want to rub but I want my wheels stick out a lil bit.

The offset you have is good for your wheel size. Reduce it and you may rub at times, particularly if loaded or over bumps or dips or fast turns. If you are running narrow or stretched tires there would be more room to push the wheels out. You could probably run 15 mm spacers with 235 tires or 20mm spacers with 225 tires. BMW ran 17x8.5 ET41 with 245/40/17 ion thecrrar if M3. They can fit any more tire without rubbing unless you roll and work the fenders. Same idea, they can’t yse any less offset without rubbing unless you reduce tire width

Thankyou, I think I want a staggered look so I’m thinking about 15 in the back and a 12 or some in the front

That won’t be a stagger with same size wheels and tires. Buy 96-99 M3 wheels or similar aftermarket (like Apex) if you want stagger. If you want a noticeable stagger with spacers, it’s tough because you can’t move the rears out nearly as much as you can move the fronts out. Maybe run narrow tires and 20 rear spacer and no front spacer. Personally, I prefer performance to looks.

Yeah spacing your wheels out purely for looks sounds like a dumb idea to me. You could prematurely wear out your bearings or something. Im not a fan of staggered wheels in general though. You can't rotate wheels and tires, and it creates a bias in your handling characteristics, typically trending towards increased understeer.
