    1989 635csi service interval batteries

I am getting ready to replace the odometer gears in my E24. I figured that as long as the dash is apart, I might as well replace the service interval batteries if there are any in the 1989 model. I checked the ETM to see if there are any, but didn't see a reference. Can someone tell me if there are batteries? Thanks,
    Tom

I had my 89 apart for gears some time back. I didn't see any on mine. I keep hearing about them but never did find any. Hope that helps you.

Thanks for the reply, Spr Cpe. I tore into the dash this morning and discovered that you are correct. There are no batteries in instrument pod. Odometer is fixed and ready to go. I wonder how the service interval indicator retains the information without backup batteries.

You probably have the board without batteries, it uses capacitors. I have one in my car. They are available on Ebay.

If you do have the batteries, there will be two of them, as components on the main circuit board. They have to be removed with a soldering gun and de-soldering braid.
