Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted here, hope everyone is good!
I had an issue last week where I got left stranded on the motorway/highway, and would like some input on suggestions for the cause.
After about 3 hours of normal cruising when I tried to accelerate the car suddenly started to lose power. If I tried to keep a steady throttle it was slowing down still, but if I tried to give more power it would slow down even more. Then it start to jerk violently, as if all the power was coming back for a split second then going away again (only with the throttle depressed). I was pulling over then it stopped and drove fine again for bout 10 minutes. Of course, it happened again and this time left me stranded at the side of the road. It would start back up but run very very rough and then die.
The next day it got delivered to a garage to try and diagnose (I no longer have time nor space to do much diagnostic work). Everything was fine. The car starts and drives no problem. There were NO codes from the obd, and I have also checked using BMW software and can confirm no codes.
I'm leaning on a sensor or maybe fuel pump. The fuel pump was checked a few months ago and giving out correct pressure, but that could change as I'm assuming it's original.
Has anyone experienced this and found the solution? Car has 230000km by the way, engine runs good and strong, regularly serviced by myself, vanos seals are changed etc etc etc. I may have to take a 23hour trip soon and can't have this happening again!!
Thanks,
Rob.
Sounds like a bad fuel pump. Check pressure. Use vdo pump and replace filter unless you recently replaced it.
