I know this is a super bizarre-0 question, but has anyone ever tried to swap a more modern auto trans into an e12 or e28? I've got an e12 with the dinosaur 3 Spd auto. The car is beautiful and my wife really loves it but refuses to drive stick. I have three manual transmission cars, so can't give her s*** about it, I'm just really glad I've got a classic she digs. However, would it be possible to put a 6spd auto from a mid 2000's car in place of what's there now, or am I just out of luck?
Thanks for the help!
What engine does it have? Maybe you could find something from a e32 (I think it had a m30 in the 1990s) or e34.
Electronics will be the most difficult to adapt. The easiest being M30B35 as suggested, that transmission and engine will be a step up form what you have, +30hp and +40ft torque, which is about +20% more power. the auto loses a lot, but won't be as bad with the 4 speed. Might depend what diff ratio you currently have too...
