Question Codes and Mass Airflow Sensor

My Service Engine soon light came on, I had the codes run and came up with the following.
10148, 10371 (bank 2), 10370 (bank 1), 10139, 10670, p0171, p0172, p 0128, (added some coolant)in checking it is very unusual for bank 1 and 2 to both go out - which directed me to the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
I ordered a MAF sensor, installed it and the "auto transmission" warning light came on. I put old sensor back in and its fine now (new warning light went off).
The part I ordered was suppose to work with the E46 and M54 Engine. Mine is a M54.

    Any help on this?

Sure: Don't buy parts at local auto parts stores. They are Chinese garbage. If you need a MAF, order an OEM part from FCP Euro, or getbmwparts.com.

P-codes are useless, for diagnosing a BMW. You need to read codes with a BMW specific, quality diagnostic tool.....and print the descriptions, in words, as given by the quality diag tool.

MAF codes, lean codes, and the like are most often the result of intake / crankcase vent system leaks, which require a smoke test with a smoke machine to locate or disprove.

The way the engine management systems are designed and linked to other parts of the car the fault codes that are present are not what's exactly wrong with the car sometimes. It could just be the sensor is setting faults because it's part of a system and it's the first thing in line to fault thru dx you really find out what's happening
