Hey Guys - First post here... I have a 2011 550i and a 2012 X5 50i. I need my valve stem seals replaced. That said, my 550 has 95k miles on it, and simply doesn't make sense to invest that kind of money into it. I love the V8 engine, but obviously don't want to be in this situation again. So a few questions: Did BMW fix the issue in later engines, if so which ones/years? How does the law suit factor into this? Any insight you can provide is appreciated.
They never fixed the valve stem seal issue. It still plagues their current engines AFAIK. Partly due to poor material specification, partly due to obscenely long oil change intervals.
Try running the 10w60 m oil we have had great results with that
