1998 528i bmw high revs after start up from head gasket fix

I just replaced the cylinder head and head gasket on my car, along with other items. When I turned on my car it revs extremely high, around 3 thousand revolutions. Does anyone know what could cause this? People told me to check for vacuum leaks while it’s on it I’m afraid to do so due to the speed at which the engine is turning. Makes me feel like it’s about to start flying. If anyone knows anything please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks! It actually ended being my fault. I messed around with the plastic threads for the throttle body cord, abs ended up stretching it or shortening it and causing the car to idle at idle. My friend who’s a mechanic figured it out in a few minutes.
