I’m driving on a normal day sunny no conditions. When I go over a few rough patches the traction control comes on and car loses some sort of control. The other day it was raining and I lost control of the car on the highway and I went from left most lane to the right most. My tires tread is a bit worn but I also feel the reason is the traction control not working properly. The car was literally skipping around on the highway if I went faster than 80km/h. Is there some sorta sensor for traction control ?

It may be that the traction control is doing its job when it senses slip, even if mild.. but it cannot possibly save you while hydroplaning. Get those tires changed asap before it becomes very expensive.
