    328d tranny problem

I have a 328d xdrive (2014) with 80k and wife was driving it and it made a loud noise and now it won’t drive. When it’s in park it still free wheels. Put it up in the air and looked under it. Nothing looks broken and no leaks. Has given us no problems and happened out of the blue. Any suggestions as what to look for?

There were many with transfer case issues, and this sounds like it.

The metallurgy in the output flange for the rear driveshaft was too soft (assumption) and strips from the transfer case shaft.

It should somewhat be able to use the front wheels to move the car.
Is there a lot of grinding noise when you try to move it?

Although I have not been affected, I bought a spare transfer case a few months back from the dealer when they dropped the price to under $600 brand new (from ~$4000+)
Part number 27108643149 or 27108662300 . They went up in price again.

You can replace just the flange if it's that. Part number for the kit 27107593440

Good evening and thanks for the info regarding my tranny problems. I finally had time to tear into the car today and the output flange is the problem. I removed the snap ring and the flange won’t come off. Am I able to use a gearpuller or does the transfer case need to come apart to do repairs? Also does the transfer case need to be flushed and is it separate from the tranny or does tranny need flushed also?

I have never pulled the output flange. If you can fit a puller in there, then it would make your life easier.

The fluid is completely separate of the automatic transmission. It takes some 1-2 liters (from memory) of the BMW DTF 1 (75W).

You should consider doing the automatic transmission fluid service too while there. I have done mine using a kit with ZF pan and LiquiMoly fluid for 8HP (I found the kit for $180). IIRC it came with 7 or 8 liters, but you end up doing only 4-5 liters.
