M50 Non-Vanos oil filter housing leak

My 525it has an oil leak that keeps coming back after replacing the oil filter housing gasket. I'll replace it, but then it will start leaking again after a few weeks. I haven't had problems with the freeze plugs, since the leak will completely go away after the housing gasket is replaced. The valve cover was off recently, and the crankcase breather is clean. What could be causing the gasket to fail so quickly?
