2000 323i cranks but no start

    I just bought a 2000 bmw 323i not running
I turn the key lights come on but i don't hear clicking of the relays when i turn the key i tested the fuel pump relay did not click tested relay socket has power and ground replaced relay. Tested dme relay it was also bad no clicking replaced it with new one but only clicks when i manually give power to the relay not when its plugged in and turn the key was thinking might be ignition switch but can't find any wire diagrams for the switch any help would be appreciated

Here are the wiring diagrams, service manuals, and pretty much everything else:

My wild-assed guess is that you have an EWS issue; perhaps the EWS and DME lost their alignment. You need a BMW specific diagnostic scan tool which can read the codes in all your computers. A generic OBD code reader cannot do this. Stop messing with relays and such, and get the codes read. A decent BMW shop can not only read the codes in all the computers, but can re-align the DME and EWS.

Make sure you use the round 20-pin port.

It may be more of a power issue. The only way I have seen the ews and dme fall out of alignment is where I deliberately did it myself by making identical copies of EWS and using one to start the car.. then the clone "fell behind" on the rolling code.

    Otherwise, it's really hard.

Juan, please know that 328 Power 04 is the master BMW computer guy. I call HIM, when I need the very best computer expertise.

I also have a Matco / Launch diag computer, that's set up for every make, including BMW. I use if for the fast / easy stuff; for real diagnostics, I use the Autologic, or BMW's own ISTA. However, when a BMW has a 20-pin diag port underhood (like yours), THAT is the port you need to use, WHICHEVER diag tool you're using.. The OBD2 port will talk to the DME (engine management), but it will not talk to the EWS and other modules, on cars with the 20-pin port. Matco sells the 20-pin connector for the Launch, or you can buy one for $20 at ECS Tuning, or E-Bay.

In fact, if the cap is not properly attached to the 20-pin port, the OBD port doesn't work at all.

Yes once i discovered the round 20 point port i plug my adapter in, my scanner came with bunch of different ports i used 20 point port and gave it power with the supplied leads and still was not able to communicate with any computers on the car.
