Quick question. Rubber gasket under oil cap

I did my new plugs today. BMW made it pretty easy. Under and hour while taking pictures of each step. I read the dealer gets over $300 for this job.

When removing my engine cover I noticed a loose rubber gasket that goes under the oil cap. I could not tell if it should be positioned on top of the engine cover and under the oil cap or under the engine cover as well.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you. That is how I have it but it seemed a little big for that area so I was not sure.

If its the rubber gasket I'm thinking of, it sits under the beauty cover. It's designed to gasket the beauty cover against the oil filler neck, so if you spill oil on the neck when topping up the engine, it will flow over the beauty cover, not under it where it could reach the spark plugs or coils if applicable.

Thanks BB. I did not totally understand your explanation but based on what I underlined, I will try it under the cover since I never noticed it before taking the cover off yesterday.

You were right. It looks much better under the engine cover.

I noticed a clip on one of those round engine cover caps/plugs was broken. That will not make the engine explode will it? (joke but will it? lol)

Ordered a new cap. $3.01 including shipping. I can live with that.
