I have a 1991 318is and I was trying to get rid of my day time running lights. I read on a forum that all I needed to do is ground terminal 86 to the headlight switch. As I was attempting this I accidentally grounded terminal 30 and shorted something out. I am getting power to both the high beam relay and the low beam relay, The high beam relay is brand new and I have tested the low beam relay multiple times. I think that it’s a grounding problem with one of the relays. The Bentley service manual (e30) section 15 page 34 table l (headlight circuit electrical tests) I have completed all the tests and I am now on to table m I cant find any of the test terminals except for terminal 31 which is on the bottom of the steering column. Thanks in advance.
This sounds like a problem with the unloader relays since it is affecting both circuits. I'm not familiar with the lighting circuits with DRL used in Canadian cars or I would give you more specific tests.
