Hi all,
Reasonably long-time member here, although I haven’t been posting much lately.
I just bought a 2015 428i with 6-speed manual. To me, it’s a good, modern successor to our E24s. Tinkering with my 635 used to be a hobby, but I wanted something that requires less of my time. I think the F32 should fit the bill. The two cars are within a few inches of each other in width, height, and length, subtracting the E24 bumpers:-). The F32 is just 86 pounds heavier, and has 20 more hp. Interior dimensions feel very similar.
As I look at the pictures below, I think both cars are beautiful, but in very different ways. They also drive very differently, as you can imagine. The F32 is faster and more sure footed. The E24 is a lot more fun to shift, as the engine revs drop quickly, so engine revs match road speed with quick shifts. The F32 engine drops revs very slowly. I’ve yet to master the first to second gear shift. Well see how that develops in time.
I’ll likely be selling my 635 in the coming months. PM me if you’d like to talk about it. I’m in the San Francisco bay area, and I expect to price it to sell.
I’ve learned a lot on this forum—it’s allowed me to keep my 635 going all these years. I’ve experienced many of the problems many of you have had—ECU needing re-flowing, fuel pressure regulator, coolant temp sender, fuel pump and main relays, steering box mount, trunk lid torsion springs, heater motor transistor, heater valve, leaking batteries in the service interval board, etc. Overall, I guess, I’ve been pretty lucky. Over the 13 years I’ve owned the car, I’d say it’s been pretty reliable, and even economical!
Regards, Lee

Nice 428i. I bought an M140i this year as I was sick of not driving my 633CSi (it is still laid up with engine still on dyno). So I understand your rationale here.
The 6'er's are going up in price. Over here in Aus, 6'ers have doubled in price in the last 8 years. M635CSi's have near tripled. Good 635CSi's are now going for 2010 M6 prices. The UK went first and I'm sure the US will follow. Maybe consider hanging onto it?

Yes, prices have at least doubled here since I bought mine 13 years ago. I have no place to store it, and I don't drive enough to keep two cars. I'll miss it, but no regrets.
Enjoy your M140i!
I may be interested in your 635. Can you tell me a little about it? Do you have other photos?
I'd be interested as well.

The M140i is insane. You can tune the ECU to make them faster than an M3 or M4 (and the same hp but 80nm more, from a simple tune! It's stupid!!). I had it on a BMW Driver Club track day. There was an E36 318 ti track car with semi slicks, stripped out, roll cage and S52 (E46 3.2 litre M3 engine) in front of me. There was a lot of concrete around so I had sports mode selected but all the aids still engaged. I was pushing at about 90% and took him. He was hammering so hard he was locking brakes on tight corners. The M140i is a lovely sleeper or an insane weapon. Mines stock. Paddle shift and no LSD at the moment.
Enjoy that 428i. With a 6 speed it should bring you heaps of e24 like fun on twisty roads.

Cool that you still have an interest in another 6. How often do we hear from someone that sold theirs that it was a regretful moment. I'm on my 3rd 6 in about 18 years. Plan on driving one for a long long time. Even my son got bit by the bug and will have one as well for a while.
Maybe catch you on a trip through Louisville again if you're still doing the circuit.
I've been contemplating selling mine as well. Having to carry a baby seat in the back is burdensome, once pulling my back getting the seat out. Looking to get a 4-door at some point. I just can't believe these cars are 30+ years old now. Seems like yesterday!
Mines 41 years old. But who's counting.

A quick update. I priced the 635 to sell, and it went in a few days. Every time I drive my 428, I think how much I like it. If any of you are looking for an E24 replacement, definitely look at an F32.
The 428 is a great all around car. It looks as executive and fast as an M4 without the costs. It's a real gentleman's GT that will keep a golf GTI honest. You picked a beauty.

I applaud your choice of cars, I've only copiloted the 420d automatic (in the Belgian city of Ghent) and was very impressed. Its fast and agile yet comfortable.
In my case the sixer is a hobby vehicle and not a daily driver, and my kids are too big for child seats, they will be interested in the front seats, especially when my car is finished next year. We have a stationwagen and an SUV for daily, when the 4-series become more affordable it might be a future choice.
