Water Valve Cover 64-11-1-383-499 NLA from BMW, alternate solution...

    UPDATE 09/27/18:
rosakirk12 evaluated the first prototype piece and all fit well.
I'm waiting on the overall length of the original piece as my iteration was a bit longer than factory
Once I have the dimension, I will adjust the model and begin printing covers from Nylon12 20%CF, install the fastening magnets and offer them up for sale to the group.
I will ship them to the US for $50.00 which includes USPS priority mail.
    Thanks... Bill.

    UPDATE 09/20/18:
Prototype piece has been sent to a fellow member.
Keep watch for follow-up availability of production piece.
    Bill.

Back when I still owned my 8, I suffered from a cracked Water Valve cover, part number 64-11-1-383-499, that has been unfortunately NLA from BMW.
At the time, I simply used some polyester resin and fiberglass to put it back together as best as I could.
I knew that it would be a matter of time before it would crack again and began modeling it in CATIA for future use in a 3D printed fashion.
I finally got around to purchasing a 3D printer from China and played with the model until I thought I may have a replacement design.
I tried to reinforce the thin/weak areas and redesigned the fastening from the C-Clips that were way too strong, to rare earth magnets in the bottom of the bosses.
I have a one-off prototype made from Nylon 12 with 20% carbon fiber filament and would like to offer up the prototype
unit to a forum member for free in exchange for a report on fit-up and some pictures when installed. I will pickup the shipping to your door.
If there are any forum members that currently have a missing or cracked cover and would like the opportunity to try out
a prototype piece for free, please PM me your name and address and I will ship the piece out for free for fit-up analysis.
If the fit and finish is acceptable to the forum member, I will most likely offer them for sale to others in need at a very reasonable price.

Looks great. Even though you used a 3D printer that was made in China, I'm confident your design will be of much higher quality than anything coming from there.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this part! Looks very good. Would be great to see more parts and covers available for us to use to keep our cars in nice condition.

Would you be willing to share your 3d model for those that want to print their own themselves?

No problem. Currently it is designed in CATIA V5 as a .catpart.
What format do you want (.step, .iges, or .stl?)

Was wondering if the E32/E34 cover will fit - or can be adapted to - the E31?
However it seems that the valve is interchangeable between these models, but the cover is not.

These are GREAT! Also, combine a new cover with how someone took out the clips and placed magnets, and it should be good for the life of the car. Again, great work.

E32 cover does not fit E31, 64111390828 cover is still available for abt. $20, but as per ETK only fits E32. Heater valves are same, but the surroundungs which are also covered are different from E31. here a E32 cover, actually the cover consists of 2 parts which are clipped together, you might try the cover part over the valves only https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/64111390828/
