Fuel pump or fuel filter

What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump? Bad fuel filter? Our car is at the mechanic and is giving no codes. When you accelerate the car starts to lose power and literally starts to jerks and sputter. The car otherwise drives ok as long as you don't hard accelerate. Our mechanic, who is amazing is having to test out a few different things but believes it is one of the two. Thoughts?

Drive it with the fuel pressure gauge taped to the wind shield. You could to a ramp test watching live data when pump motors are worn the peaks and valleys on the screen large a new pump the read out of the peaks and valleys will,be much smaller and fuel pump will not set fault
