My 335i has 98K miles on it. Rather than go drop 30-35K on a used M, I think I want to upgrade my car to stage 2. The problem is the number of miles on the car. I have 3 paths I am contemplating:
1. Stage 2 upgrade now, replace turbo and rebuild engine as they fail from performance boost.
2. Stage 2 upgrade now along with turbo upgrade. See if engine holds. Rebuild when necessary.
3. Go ahead and rebuild engine now, upgrade turbo, and do stage 2 upgrade.
What do you guys think? Is it even worth any of these options, or should I just go look for a lower millage car and do the performance upgrade,? Thanks!
What's your target? 400WHP, 500WHP, 700WHP, 1000WHP? ("Stage x" doesn't mean anything... parts of my car are stage 1 and parts are stage 3... need a target and then build to match... rather, over-build so there is no stress)
You're car has lots of potential, but based on your thread, I think you have some more reading ahead of you.
I suggest visiting a performance based Forum, such as N54Tech.com, where everyone over-boosts.
Your engine internals are forged, not sure what parts you are thinking to 'rebuild'.
Stock internals are good for 700+ whp, no issues.
Transmission would come into question first, if you start going up from there.
Stock turbos will push up to 20 PSI, however you'll want to do full bolt-on's and inlets/outlets in order to reduce back-pressure.
Upgrade turbos after you cook them.
Going over 500WHP you generally go to single turbo, after market at the very least.
FMIC
Downpipes
Intake (CAI or DCI)
JB4
Pump/Race BEF
Charge Pipe w/ Meth injection, starting at 50/50 (meth/water)
xHP Transmission Flash (Stage 3, v2.0)
Same path as everyone else with a 335.
