Hi,
Very new to working on cars, so plz excuse the noobishness
Recently inherited my grandpa's broken down E32... really always liked that car
but the clutch master cilinder is toast
1.jpg 3.jpg
After removing it, I found that the attached hardline had a slightly rusty screw on the
end where it connects into the clutch master cilinder.. Can I reuse this or should I
somehow replace it ?
Or is it maybe a good idea to use a little teflon seal tape on the screw thread ?
Or maybe that's a no no on brake lines ?
If I have to replace it, is it possible to flare and bend new piece of hardline to the old OEM's spec using
common flaring ( and bending ) tools ?
And are the screws that go on each end of hard line standard stuff you can buy, or is it a
special OEM BMW type of deal ?
Or do I have to go about and hunt for a new piece of hardline from some E32 parts car ??
Really hope no on that !
Hope anyone can shed some light on this, as am very much clueless on this type of stuff !
Post all E32 related questions in the E32 subforum, there are many experts for E32 and we have a detailed DIY. I will move it to there.
Clean it with a small steel brush, the rush should go away and it will probably be re-usable. You can use Loctite 542 for hydraulic connections https://www.online-dichtungsshop.de/Loctite-542-10ml
that is for hydraulic and pneumatic screw connections

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Thanks for the answer !
Posted it in general because I thought it applied to pretty much all BMW's
Gonna go for it and get some of that special lock tight, good tip
Very handy links as well !!
Mine looked a little bit worse when I replaced my master and slave, and it has held up perfectly fine for almost a year and a half (I have an E34, but same idea). If you want to be extra sure, you can coat the line itself with a rust-protective paint; not to sound like a commercial, but I'd use POR-15, if it's available there, that stuff is amazing!
I wouldnt put anything on the threads as thats not where that line seals. You just need to clean the threads with a soft bristle wire brush (like brass). and maybe wd40 where the line goes through the nut so itll spin freely.
